Top 25. The week that was and will be....

  1. USC.  Wow!  You beat an unranked Virginia team, moved up 3 spots in the polls and took a week off.  Wish I had your schedule. Ohio State should be a cake walk.  We should bill this as the battle of two conference champs who never played a conf championship.
  2. Georgia. After a steady diet of creampuffs, the Dawgs get to eat some meat, isn’t gamecock the other white meat?  South Carolina is hurt after a couple losses and I’ve always said to avoid a wounded cock.  This could be interesting.
  3. Oklahoma.  The Bearcats gave OU’s tight hipped secondary a workout, not to mention the Sooners’ special teams that looked more like special ed.  The Sooners face Washington, in Seattle and a host of Pac 10 officials with plenty of make up calls after that debacle last week.
  4. Florida.  Urban Meyer must have had money on Florida and the spread some say.  I say “what’s a guy to do?”  Is it more insulting to have your opponent that is spanking you and on 4th down in field goal range a) kick it, b) go for it or c) take a knee?  The U is a good team but didn’t have enough gas to finish it.
  5. Ohio State.  The Ohio game was not an embarrassment to Ohio State.  Frank Solich puts a fundamentally sound team on the field every year.  Ask Pitt.  Ohio State was dropped in the polls after a WIN.  If  Ohio State can’t get up for this one, they can’t get up for anything.
  6. Missouri. Passed the first big test against Illinois.  Next game we care about is Oct 4th vs Nebraska.  But don’t overlook a remarkably improved Buffalo.
  7. LSU.  Apparently the Tigers’ strategy is to postpone every game until the teams above them lose and play in the national championship.  They have the beeeatch of the Big 12 (North Texas) this week.  Look out for Auburn.
  8. Texas.  The worst thing about the UTEP game was the ride.  Expect a snoozer with Arkansas this week.
  9. Auburn.  This is a team on the prowl.  Another W vs Miss St this week won’t hurt.
  10. Wisconsin.  Pretenders.  How do you play on the MAC tour and get in the top f’n 10?  I hope Fresno State kicks your jump around butts in your first real game of the season.
  11. Kansas.  This could be the best game of the weekend on Friday against USF.  Definitely be the first real game for the Jayhawks.
  12. Texas Tech.  SMU visits Texas Tech in the “first one to 100 wins” bowl.  Not expecting a whole lot of defense in this one.  This could however be the first team TTU plays that has a pulse this year.
  13. Arizona State.  Rudy Carpenter could be the feel good story of the year for the Pac 10 right above Mark Sanchez jock itch.
  14. Oregon.  The Ducks should be able to run Purdue up and down the field.  Make sure the Boilermakers have some towels to throw in.
  15. BYU.  Good win against an improving Washington.  Don’t let the calls diminish the W.  Any team worth a damn can make a 35 yard pat.
  16. Alabama.  The Tide is rolling after the embarrassing finish last year. Directional Kentucky is just a speed bump.
  17. Penn State.  If they keep thawing Joe Pa just for game days, he could live to be 300.
  18. South Florida.  The flag bearers for the Big lEast have their work cut out for them this week.
  19. Wake Forest.  Good win over Ole Miss and a bye week should get them ready for Free Shoe University.
  20. East Carolina.  The reason I decided to go by the USA today poll.  Good wins but they will fall to Virginia and some one else unexpected.
  21. Fresno State.  There’s no quit in this team. Pat Hill has them believing they can beat anyone including the fighting badgers.
  22. Utah.  Solid win over Michigan.  Next test is the Fighting Beavers if they can find their heart after the trampling by Penn State.
  23. Clemson.  At least they blew it early before everyone got their hopes up.
  24. West Virginia.  Amazing what a little wind can do to a one dimensional team,  I’d be rethinking the scheme if I were them.  The bye week should help them put the zone read back in the offense.
  25. California.  Should easily handle the Terps this week.

Too good to pass up...Digging for Gold at the Texas - UTEP game...  Thanks Mike!!!
