September 27th viewing guide. Road Dog Special
11:30 #4 Florida vs Ole Miss
The Gators are giving 24 in this one.
Jevon Sneed and the Rebels bringing their 109th ranked turnover margin with them. The Gators are sporting a pretty underwhelming 86th ranked offense. I expect a couple of special teams breakdowns in this one that lead to scores. Ole Miss has solid fronts on both sides of the ball and will protect the ball a little better than they have recently.
I’m taking Ole Miss and the points.
2:30 #25 Fresno State at UCLA
The only reason I’m watching this is to see if UCLA can bounce back from their humiliation the last two weeks. If you had told me at the beginning of the season that Norm Chow would have a 117th ranked offense 3 games into the season, I would have wanted some of whatever you were taking. Fresno State is more balanced in all aspects of the game. Special teams is the beacon on the hill for the Bruins with Punt and Kick Returns ranking 64th and 49th respectively. Fresno State is tougher than most of the PAC 10 and Neu has worn off of the Heisel since he lost this team.
UCLA is getting 7 at home. I’m taking Fresno State and giving the points.
6:00 #2 Oklahoma vs #24 TCU
The fighting Horned Frogs are 2-0 in their last two trips to Norman. They are #1 in Rushing Defense and Total Defense and #3 in Pass Efficiency Defense. I would not be at all surprised to see Sam Bradford have a rather pedestrian day. This one could come down to a special teams touchdown and a turnover. TCU is the most disciplined team in the country right now. The only way they can beat themselves is with their less than stellar passing attack. Oklahoma will get up early. TCU will grind back into it with the run game.
Oklahoma is giving 18. I’m taking TCU and the points (don’t tell the Mrs.).
6:45 #3 Georgia vs #8 Alabama
When the Tide has the ball it will be strength on strength with Bama’s 14th ranked rushing attack against the Dawgs 3rd ranked rushing Defense. The biggest chink in Bama’s armor is their ability to score quick with an underwhelming passing attack and the wholes they have put themselves in during kickoff returns. A defensive touchdown will figure into this one. I really believe these teams are pretty evenly matched and on a neutral field I would give the game to Bama.
Georgia is giving 7. I’ll take Bama and the points.
7:00 Virginia Tech at Nebraska
The Huskers are facing their first real test Lincoln this week. If you look at the body of work that the Hokies have put together it’s definitely more impressive, even the loss to ECU. The hokies have a solid pass D, but there special teams have been anything but special. The Huskers have performed solidly against air so far this season, but I think the euphoria comes out of the bug eater balloon this week. I’m a big Bo P fan, but I don’t believe in fairy tail turnarounds.
The Huskers are giving 7 at home. I’m taking the Hokies and the points.
Lock of the Week - Florida State -6 vs Colorado
I’m not sure how Colorado can score negative points and that's the only way FSU covers. I’m not convinced the ‘Noles can score 6, so I’m taking the Buffs and the points on the road.
