Bowl Game Recap
I just returned from Miama and after 1507 miles to think about what I saw and experienced over the last two weeks on this road trip, here are my observations:
1. Brent Venables, Bobby Jack Wright and the Sooner Defense have zero blame in this loss. And you know it pains me to say that. If the Sooners offense was able to sustain one drive down the field and convert when they had the opportunity, it would have been a "W."
2. Our awesome offensive line was not. And our receivers dropped the ball.
3. Florida did a better job of scouting the ACC officiating crew. They knew what would get called and what wouldn't and prepared their team appropriately.
4. Florida fans were great (pics below). They have their bad fans who never went there, don't were team colors and just want to come and talk smack, but don't we all.
5. There were 300 motorhomes in the motorhome lot and about 10 were oklahoma fans. It wasn't like that in 2000 or 2004. Unless someone saw something different, the stadium looked about the same. I honestly believe oklahoma fans are getting tired of shelling out $10k+ for a family of four to go watch OU lose in the big game.
6. Ticket pricing was unbelievable. Even before kickoff they were still going for around $400 each and by half were down to around $100. There were about 50 sooner fans and over 1000 gator fans watching in the motorhome lot.
7. Ticket fraud is real. A friend of mine bought 4 tickets for $1000 before the game only to find out that they were fake. He watched the game with me outside.
8. Miami-Dade county sheriff's department are idiots. Most of the victory parties in the RV lot wrapped up by 2am (even though I had been asleep long before then). Can you believe that they came and kicked everyone out of the motorhome lot at 4am? So let's think through this. Either they are idiots or they needed some DUIs to pad their stats. Stupid!
9. I am damn good at throwing together a tailgate party for about 40 people (with no small amount of help from Mrs. FBJ).
10. Florida fans were not very good at estimating the amount of beer they would need to get them from 8am when the lot opened until midnight. Luckily all of the beer that my guests brought and left was available for purchase and Tyson was just the man to do it. I was told that the going rate was more expensive than buying beer at Disney.
11. Florida people are all Disney haters. I'm amazed! I spend more money every year at Disney than I do on Sooner Football. Anything that brings that much money into your state shouldn't be so widely hated.
12. Camping on the Gulf campground is amazing. Pull your motorhome right up on the beach. Pics below.
13. I hate Texas.
14. I hate the end of bowl season beauty pageant that is the BCS. Frankly I'm amazed that my Sooners only dropped to #5 because Bob Stoops is not a shameless pimp of his team. Shameless pimp lessons available from Pete Carrol and Mack Brown.
15. ESPN has become the CNN of college football. No credibility, all hype and too many people believing everything they hear instead of thinking for themselves.
16. Real fans. I've been perusing the message boards and seen some people talking about true, loyal and real OU fans. Some moron went as far as to say the 11 people who harassed the team at the airport when they arrived were the "real fans." Real fans don't miss a game (either by tv, radio, in person, recorded or live). Real fans can tell you who the last 5 coaches were and all of OU's Heisman winners. Real fans have clear memories of defining moments in their fanhood. If you don't have those, you're not a real fan. You know who you are.
17. I'm glad Utah's coach voted his team #1. They did all they could do but unfortunately....
18. 119 teams started the season with the exact same objective. Around 40 teams actually have a chance at it depending on how the ball bounces, the schedule works out and the calls go. For all of you haters out there who think your team should have been either in the game or #1 without playing in the game schedule a really tough out of conference schedule or change conferences.
19. And as for me, the two best teams from the two best conferences played. We'll eventually win one. I'll keep supporting and criticisizing my team as long as we keep playing. Osborne and Bear Bryant hold records of 7 and 8 bowl visits without a win. If you are not playing in them, you won't lose.
20. 237 days until the Sooners strap it on vs BYU in the Jerry-dome. Let's get it on!!!!
