A Poor Aggie Assaults Berry Tramel of the Oklahoman

The content below was found on the Okie Lite Board. Apparently this guy has = too much time on his hands.  Must have been a) spring break and his mom = let him near the computer while she was at work (I could have found a better = past time), b) Was there a break in wrestling season that I don’t know = about or c) Enid State School has just received internet access?  Sad = little aggie.  Enjoy

Here is what = was taken from the web site.

I wrote this email to Berry Tramel on January 13th after Berry Tramel = created a video blog entitled “Messiah in Shoulder Pads,” where he was = very critical of overly positive dialogue about T. Tebow in the BCS title = game.

Berry,

I agree, the praise to Tebow was certainly overdone. However, there has = been more said about Tebow's praises than any other over-the-top commentary = this year, especially by OU fans, The Daily Oklahoman and News9.

If OU would have won the game, you could be guaranteed that those = comments belonging to Tim Tebow would be slightly altered and Sam Bradford's name = would have been in their place, because that is becoming the state of current = color commentating on television. PLENTY of games I was subjected to hear Sam Bradford be heralded at godlike status and the game that OU loses, there = is all this complaining??

Don't you feel that all this backlash about the commentating from the OU faithful is a result of the bitter taste of losing another National = Championship??

Commentating has reached "all-time lows" this entire season. = Nearly every color commentator in the business is completely nauseating on most broadcasts, especially Kirk Hirbstreit.

Before you jump on the bandwagon of complainers, maybe you should = revisit some of OU's games and the amount of praises being awarded to "Slingin Sammy" Bradford.

Just something to think about.

Here is his response on January = 13:

I see what you're saying -- Bradford and = the Cherokees is a good example -- but I've never experienced anything like = the adoration towards Tebow, and that was long before the ballgame last = Thursday night.

After the Bedlam basketball game on = Saturday I sent this email to Berry:

Berry,

Did you watch Saturday's ABC Broadcast of Bedlam basketball? ...I think = you may have another story to report

Blake Griffin was given more praises than Tebow during the National Championship game. I believe I could possibly draw a sketch of his = parents from memory, since I saw them nearly 20 times during that period. One thing = that makes it truly unbelievable to me is the fact that the game was very = close for the entire game, yet, if you didn't know the score, you would have = thought it was a runaway. Additionally, Griffin = wasn't even the leading scorer in the game, yet James Anderson didn't even slow the nauseating praises crowned to Griffin.

Just wondering if you saw and heard it and if you are going to run a = similar story as you did after the BCS Title game.

His response was the = following:

No, I didn't see it. Networks tend to = focus on one guy.
So I sent back this = email:

What a coincidence.

Did you experience some major revelation since your complaints in = January which warranted a video blog?

I assume if the BCS Title game and the commentary happened again, you = would now be fine with it?

If not, this is clearly a very blatant example of = hypocrisy...
This was his very quick response back:

No. The ramblings of a = regionally-televised college basketball analyst do not compare with the glorification of Tim = Tebow, which was a national story BEFORE the national championship = telecast.
But on a more general note, please lose the Poor Aggie Syndrome. It's = very unbecoming.

I then sent this response back to = Berry:

Berry,

The obsession of Blake Griffin was also a story BEFORE Saturday. Much of = the reason for T.Tebow's praise was his unrivaled participation in charity/evangelistic events. If Griffin had any community involvement resume, he would also receive those = praises. The "ramblings" are only rivaled by those of Tebow, the reason I = sought your opinion. I realized you held a strong view (as did all OU fans) = about Tebow's praises and wondered your reaction when the tables were turned. = I found it quite amusing that you were so quick to dismiss my argument when you = were so adamant after the BCS title game.

And, just for the record, here is what the coverage for the game looked = like: http://assets.espn.go.com/photo/2009...0307_330pm.= jpg

While it is certainly not viewed by as many as the national championship = game, it is hardly a small regional game. It was commentated by Jimmy Dykes = and Bob Nessler - also very large names in the business, much bigger than those = of the BCS title game.

It appears as though your allegiances are disallowing you to see the = validity of my argument, which was further proven by your diagnosis of the = "Poor Aggy Syndrome."

Maybe you should try to be a little less biased, after all it's very "unbecoming" for a great writer to let his allegiances get in = the way of facts.

He then sent the following email = back to me:

Congratulations. You have elevated Jimmy = Dykes to star status. His wife will be very proud.
I didn't say it was small. I said it was regionally televised, which it = was, and watched by maybe 1/20th the audience of the football game.
Poor Aggie Syndrome is the woe-is-me, nobody likes us attitude that = permeates some OSU fans, not all. It's 100 years old and tiresome to all but those = who are afflicted with the disease and commiserate with each other.
Here's the deal. I'll watch this link.
If Jimmy Dykes says anything close to what was said about Tim Tebow -- "Just spending a few minutes with the guy makes you a better = person" -- then I will grant your point and admit I was wrong.
If not, I will recommend a therapist.

My final response:

Berry,

Congratulations. You have convinced me to completely stop reading = anything you write. It's clear your opinion of the majority of OSU's fanbase, = something you can certainly share with the majority of your peers at the = Oklahoman.

I will save your time and mine by completely ignoring your articles. I = trust that at the rate I am going, within a very short time, I will no longer = read anything from the Oklahoman, something many OSU fans share. I hope that makes you = feel productive.

Berry’s final response:

I have never said the majority of OSU = fans suffer from Poor Aggie syndrome. I have always said it's a minority. But = it's a vocal and pathetic minority.
And you haven't been reading anything I write. At least not = comprehending it.
Here's the deal, man. You're hurting an institution, and it's not The Oklahoman. It's OSU.
A bunch of diligent, hard-working people for decades have fought to lift = OSU from its poor-me attitude. People like Eddie Sutton and Pat Jones and = Boone Pickens. And you and your backward minority have done nothing except = hold them back, perpetuating the inferiority complex.
