Beamer Ball goes Wild Turkey
I've always been a fan of Beamer Ball but some of the decisions that he makes have always seemed "Wild Turkey" induced. Can't wait to see this 20 something days from now. Fire up the Hype Machine.

Whether it's college (most prominent) or the NFL, where Pat White suddenly has a job -- as he should -- because of one buzzword: Wild ______. Okay, that's not really a word. But the point is this: the Wildcat formation is the sexiest thing to hit college football since Twitter jumped the shark a few weeks ago (blame Chad Ochocinco for that).
But you see what I'm getting at here, right? People LOVE them some Wildcat. It's like the spread, only totally 2009. In fact, it's so hip that Frank Beamer is bringing it to Virginia Tech in the form of the "Wild Turkey" [again] this year, which will [again] feature TIGHT END Greg Boone.
Boone, who had 22 catches for 278 yards and two touchdowns last season, continued to work at quarterback in spring practice out of the "Wild Turkey" behind starter Tyrod Taylor, a Hampton High graduate. Last season, Boone attempted one incomplete pass at quarterback and ran 21 times for 76 yards and a touchdown.
Now, as you can see, Boone ran the Wild Turkey (okay, I'm gonna cave here: YEEEEEEEEHAAAAAW; sorry, I couldn't last more than like two or three mentions without doing that) with moderate success last year. This isn't shocking: he was a high school quarterback and knows how to throw the football.
What is surprising is that Beamer is going to continue utilizing Boone mostly in a running role; the WildWhatever works best when you have an athletic wide receiver or running back who can also throw the football. Instead of, oh, I don't know ... a 6'3", 287-pound TIGHT END.
Which, to me, screams, "Horrible misuse of personnel!" But, hey, maybe it works and Boone becomes the next great piece of Beamer's legacy in Blacksburg. Or, worst case, we all get to make Boone's Farm quasi-jokes next season.
